ALDI Revamps Mobile Recruitment System in China, Unlocking Potential
With rapid expansion across China, ALDI faced a surge in frontline recruitment needs, while traditional hiring methods proved inefficient. To break through these bottlenecks, MoSeeker helped ALDI upgrade their WeChat recruitment and internal referral systems, as well as build a professional digital recruitment management platform. This enabled features such as job aggregation, one-click application, referral incentives, and multi-channel integration.
Employer Profile
ALDI is a renowned global retail enterprise, founded in Essen, Germany, in 1913. After more than a century of development, ALDI now operates over 10,000 stores in more than ten countries worldwide, earning a strong reputation and recognition in the international market. In June 2019, ALDI opened its first pilot stores in Shanghai, China. Following years of growth, the number of ALDI stores in Shanghai has surpassed 50, extending services across multiple districts.

Challenge
In addition to regular campus and social recruitment, ALDI also conducts in-store hiring for frontline staff—including two main roles: store managers and store staff. Store managers and assistant store managers are the core operational leaders, making recruitment challenging and requiring a robust talent pipeline to ensure smooth business operations. Store staff positions include both full-time and part-time roles, with hiring volumes maintained at specific ratios:
- Manual Recruitment Processes: Without a specialized digital recruitment system, the company relied on basic manual management methods, which were inefficient and lacked standardization, posing data security risks. Such traditional approaches couldn’t keep pace with surging talent needs brought about by business growth.
- Limited Mobile Talent Attraction: MoSeeker began collaborating with ALDI in 2021, initially empowering its recruitment via WeChat by launching an official recruitment account, but the focus was on routine operations, which had insufficient impact on target talent.
- Untapped Employee Referral Potential: Previously, ALDI only implemented basic WeChat referral features, which were not actively or deeply utilized, missing the opportunity to fully leverage employees’ networks for recruitment.
Solution
ALDI launched a comprehensive upgrade of its WeChat recruitment and referral systems, fully tapping into the potential of mobile recruitment. Leveraging MoSeeker ATS, ALDI also built a recruitment management platform to reshape business workflows and progressively enhance digital and intelligent capabilities.
1. Comprehensive Revamp of Mobile Recruitment
We carried out a complete overhaul of ALDI’s outdated WeChat recruitment public account, redesigning the menu to include campus recruitment, social recruitment, in-store recruitment, brand culture, corporate responsibility, and development programs. We also added a dedicated recruitment section, aggregating all open positions—from stores to headquarters—so job seekers can conveniently browse and apply via WeChat, making the experience as easy as shopping in a supermarket.
2. Iterative WeChat Referral Upgrades
For referrals, we redesigned and launched a points-based rewards marketplace, adding lightweight and personalized customizations. A new points system was introduced based on ALDI’s referral process, which was then widely promoted internally to encourage employee participation.
3. Building a Digital Management Platform
Based on the recruitment management system, we customized recruitment workflows, distinguishing processes for head office and store positions. We also enabled external integration—quickly syncing jobs to major job boards and consolidating mainstream recruitment channels. In addition, we built a proprietary talent pool, featuring a two-tier structure and leveraging intelligent tags specifically tailored for retail, allowing precise search and filtering of candidates. This robustly supports the company in building a strong pipeline of store manager talent.
Impact
Both the revamped WeChat recruitment channel and ATS system were launched on schedule. Following a period of use, the ALDI recruitment team expressed high satisfaction with MoSeeker’s products and services. Our technical and implementation teams responded rapidly to needs and proactively addressed issues, substantially enhancing client satisfaction:
- The revamped WeChat recruitment channel became more attractive to target candidates, driving significant growth in followers and engagement. In 2023, the WeChat recruitment account’s followers increased by nearly 70%, job views reached close to 50,000, and there were nearly 3,000 job applications. For in-store hiring, WeChat applications accounted for 30% of all channels, making it the top recruitment source.
- The points-based referral rewards system proved truly motivating for ALDI staff, especially store employees—boosting referral rates for store roles to over 30%, with a highly impressive referral-to-hire conversion rate.
- In the first half of 2024, nearly 45,000 resumes were synced from major external job sites. Meanwhile, the number of candidates in the talent database surged by 117%, with the talent pool steadily expanding.
