About this role
We are looking for an Associate Research Scientist to join Dow Consumer Solutions Product Development team in Shanghai. This role will formulate and scale silicone‑based coatings and adhesives, integrate cross‑disciplinary technologies, and deliver innovation milestones that enable new products commercialization in electronics and industrial markets. The ideal candidate combines rigorous scientific methodology with multiple product development experience, clear documentation and IP practices, and strong collaboration with cross-functional partners.
Key Responsibilities
•Drive innovations with integrated technologies to solve complex technical problems
Identifies alternative approaches to address new and existing challenges
Assess technical literature to learn and apply most effective technologies from within and outside of Dow.
•Lead formulation and experimental design to create innovative and competitive technical solutions to the market, applying scientific methodologies and statistic tools across multiple disciplines to generate high‑quality data and valuable insight.
•Lead innovative projects and define scope and deliverables, collaborate with TS&D, Process R&D, Marketing, and Commercial etc. to ensure timely project delivery and align technical deliverables with business and commercialization objectives.
•Deliver presentations or reports that distill complex ideas into clear results and proposals. Use communication appropriately to influence stakeholders.
•Monitor the competition and market trends relative to Dow IP positions and integrate the information into R&D activities. Document internal technical reports with high quality, file ICDs and patent disclosures, and contribute to portfolio strategy.
•Engage with customers in technical discussions, understand customer requirements, and translate market/customer needs into value‑adding solutions.
•Champion EHS, compliance and lab stewardship: maintain safe operations, compliant on chemical and waste handling, equipment care
Model safe practices and adhere to company policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements in all activities.
Qualifications
•Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related field.
•Minium 5 years’ experience in formulation, product or process development, preferably in Silicone Industry.
•Excellent communication in both English and Chinese.
Your Skills
•Demonstrated proficiency applying DOE/Statistics, rheology, surface science, and adhesion testing
familiarity with pilot/scale‑up workflows
make data-driven recommendations.
•Ability to integrate multiple technologies and navigate ambiguous, ill‑defined problems to actionable solutions
apply root-cause analysis to resolve technical challenges efficiently.
•Self-Motivation & Ownership: Proactively drive projects and opportunity pipelines with minimal supervision
sustain momentum to deliver results.
•Teamwork & Cross-functional Collaboration: Work seamlessly with TSD, PR&D, Marketing, Sales, Production, QA/QC etc. to achieve business goals.
•Project Management skills: Plan, prioritize, and execute development projects
manage timelines, risks, and stage gates to commercialization.
•Strong documentation skills (CRIs/ICDs), and early IP creation experience (ICDs/patents).
Additional Notes
•This is a site‑based role (Shanghai laboratory)
3-5% travel for customer trials, and manufacturing scale‑up.
