Main accountabilities and key tasks
• Closely work with internal colleagues across categories and functional groups and external stakeholders to ensure the successful landing of safety assessment of Unilever products in for China markets.
• Review the safety assessment report done by 3rd agencies and ensure its quality to align with Unilever internal risk assessment standards and meet external requirements for the purpose of registration/notification of products in China.
• Provide sound solutions to the safety related inquiries/challenges received during product registration/notification or in post-market surveillance
• Link to SERS scientists closely to understand and develop knowledge in next generation risk assessment to support new ingredient registration in China.
• Engage with Key Opinion Formers (KOFs) both in regulatory institutes and academies to introduce modern and innovative next generation risk assessment approaches without the use of animals, and help with industrial experts to build up capabilities in non-animal safety assessment, including, but not limited to Toxicological Threshold of Concerns (TTC), History of Safe Use (HoSU) and Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) / Read-Across, and Integrated Approaches to Testing and Assessment (IATA), with an final aim of their acceptance by Chinese regulators.
• Attend industry workshops/seminars to communicate Unilever differentiating capability in non-animal based next generation risk assessment.
Key interfaces:
• Global RA, North Asia RA, Safety Environmental & Regulatory Science (SERS), Technical Project Leaders (TPL).
• 3rd party agency for safety assessment, KOL, NIFDC experts, Trade Associations, and authorities.
Skills and Experience profile
Education:
• Master or PhD in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Medical Science, Chemistry or equivalent.
Experience:
• Fluency in English and Chinese. Excellent oral and written communication skills and dealing with different cultures.
• At least 5 years’ experience in safety assessment of FMCG products or chemicals, highly preferably in cosmetic industry.
• Ability to independently carry out safety assessment, and review the assessment report done by 3rd party agency.
• Excellent network with academic KOL and industry experts. Ability to influence at all levels externally and internally.
• Pro-active self-direction with a high level of initiative and persistence and a very much hands-on approach to results delivery.
