- Lead and manage a level-design team: plan, design, iterate on, and implement levels, including creating level layouts, mission progression & pacing, scripting, enemy encounters, and the integration of gameplay assets into the level.
- Provide a complete fun and memorable player experience that is consistent with the Game’s vision. Be the advocate for the player.
- Be a proactive self-starter: Take ownership of the level-creation process for a full game project; drive it through competitor analysis, paper design/prototyping, block-out phases, scripting, iteration, debugging, optimization, and delivery, ensuring it is completed with good quality and in a timely manner.
- Be extremely comfortable in breaking down full games into their pillars/systems/features, and then writing tasks and/or user stories to describe the full game experience.
- Manage designers in feature teams/pods: assign their tasks and oversee their work.
- Author the design-related content for proposal documents.
- Research benchmark games related to project objectives; be the level-design expert and ensure an innovative and authentic gameplay experience.
- Own the design-documentation solution for your game.
- Be the cross-discipline point of contact and ensure collaboration across disciplines: ensure that levels are of high visual quality, while maintaining the gameplay intentions
- Collaborate closely with QA to identify, address, and resolve reported issues.
- Mentor and coach senior designers: hold 1-on-1s and collaboratively create their objectives/goals. Assist in hiring and performance reviews.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in level-design roles.
- Released at least 2 AA or AAA console/PC titles in a game/system-design position, taking a game through a full production cycle from pre-production to release.
- Experience managing design and/or cross-discipline dev teams.
- Good knowledge of game/system-design best practices and tools.
- Proficient using Unreal Engine 4/5.
- Proficient with scripting using UE blueprints.
- Experience in collaborating with other departments/teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build quick prototypes.
- Ability to process, understand, and implement feedback: can give/receive constructive feedback.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and deliver high-quality work on time.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Adequate verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Passionate about playing and making video games.
Bonus
- Experience with crafting both multiplayer and single player levels.
- Experience in one (or more) of the following: UX, mission design, narrative design, 3Cs, combat design, progression design, game balancing, boss design, meta systems, MTX.
- Experience with multiple scripting languages.
- Experience with UI/HUD design.
- Experience with level design and/or level integration.
- Experience with multiple game development tools and editors.
- Able to travel and work in other internal domestic studios if needed.
- Experienced working in an English-speaking environment.
- Familiar in working with teams across multiple studios (co-dev environment).
- Previously lead a team of designers, and/or cross functional team, to develop game experiences.
