Within our Appliances, HVAC and Lighting (AHL), our vision is to enable safe and high performing products to enter the global markets by providing industry leading safety, performance and expert services to our clients. The goal of AHL is to add value to our clients with expert knowledge of global markets and risk mitigation through scientific leadership. The AHL is focused on delivering a total solution package to cover full product life cycle services – from product concept design to recycling – and a customizable, comprehensive portfolio of services to our customers.
As our global footprint continues to spread across the world, we are looking for a Director with a focus on Smart Solutions to join our team in Shanghai.
What you’ll learn & achieve:
Strategy Setting:
• Develop and implement a Smart Solutions vision and growth strategy, targeting new business opportunities in existing or new markets with input from the regions.
• Drive consistent and efficient global processes for seamless customer delivery
• Identify and design growth strategies and innovation to cater to evolving client demands and requirements within service line/industry, and create the required service portfolio, beyond UL’s traditional business.
• Establish relevant contacts with potential key technology/strategic alliance partners and develop a commercial partnership strategy.
• Guide and support change initiatives and new business models
• Participate in COU Long Range Planning
Financial Targets:
• Responsible for supporting Smart Solutions P&L within the COU, aligning with Regional COU Leads
Operations:
• Lead new business development within Smart Solutions
• Lead development, implementation, and evaluation of tools and processes for defined Smart Solutions
• Provide support and direction to the regions for specific challenges that have major impact on the business
• Oversee continuous improvement projects to improve efficiency both internally and externally
• Champion an engaged, inclusive and attractive work environment for UL employees with a winning culture
Board and Company Relations:
• Attend leadership team meetings as needed, present business plan and strategy
• Incorporate COU leadership team feedback on strategy and actions
• Build personal relationships and establish credibility with Segment and COU leadership team members, Industry Marketing, Segment Strategy & Innovation, and Standards teams
External Stakeholder Interaction:
• Establish/maintain UL’s position as a thought leader within Smart Solutions globally
• Engage and interact with key customers and other stakeholders within the Smart Solutions globally
• Attend industry events and network with customers and key stakeholders
• Engage in “deep dives” with big and complex customers
People Management:
• 0-8 direct reports
• Understand the unique strengths and developmental areas of direct reports and the team
• Establishes opportunities for growth to enhance career journey
• Reports to COU Leader
