UL’s Retail & Consumer Products group is seeking a proven operations and people leader to our largest Laboratory Operation in Shenzhen, China. The role will have responsibility for a lab operations team of 450+ staff in a newly built state of the art laboratory in Bao’An District of Shenzhen. The role will be responsible for all aspects of Lab Operations, Site Management and Safety, Client Services, and Administration. Lab capabilities include Toys, Chemical, Softlines, Hardlines, Cosmetics, and Furniture. The position reports to the Regional Operations Director of Greater China.
1. The role will focus on driving continual improvement in service delivery, process, and employee engagement and talent development in line with UL’s safety mission and business strategy.
2. Collaboration with the global and regional leadership team and key functional leaders in adopting global best practice locally will be key to success.
3. The role will have direct P&L and people leadership responsibility for the Shenzhen laboratory site.
4. UL is seeking a strong and positive change agent who can understand and anticipate client needs and ensure world class quality service. To support this objective, it will be critical to identify a local leader who can foster employee development and learning, ensure a world class safety culture, and pro-actively identify best operational practices, including Lean and Automation.
1. University degree (equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree) in Business Administration, Management, Engineering or related field, Master’s Degree Preferred
2. Ten (10+) years directly related experience, ten years relevant management/leadership experience.
3. Exceptional understanding of operations management and laboratory processes
4. Exceptional understanding of retail quality and compliance, and consumer product testing is highly preferred
5. Understanding of testing of softlines, chemical, or hardlines testing, regulations, and technical background is preferred.
6. Experience in working in implementing or working in a strong safety culture is preferred
7. Exceptional Interpersonal and People Management skills
8. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
9. Excellent organization skills
10. Knowledge of Lean principles and best practices
