Overview:

•Performs necropsy and/or histology tasks on a variety of laboratory animals in compliance with the appropriate SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory guidelines

•Monitors animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Health and Welfare Act and help maintain facilities for AAALAC compliance 

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Performs duties of necropsy

•Performs histology (Include trimming, decalcification, processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, coverslipping and QC)

•Performs necropsy and/or histology study responsibilities

•Performs other duties as assigned

•Report all animal care concern     s and become involved in the resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary

•Responsible for Tox sample management, including handling, transferring, and inventory until archive.

Required:

•Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences, or Associate Degree in Histology, Laboratory Animal Technology or Veterinary Technology plus twelve months experience; Experience may substitute for education

•Certification as a Histology Technician by ASCP or an AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level is desirable

•At least six months’ experience at the level equivalent to that of a Pathology Study Technician II
