The Dow APAC Packaging and Specialty Plastic (P&SP) R&D Lab Technician will be responsible for independently performing polyolefin samples characterization by using different type of equipment. Her/His work will support the R&D and TS&D Scientists to achieve first-hand lab finding/data for new product development and customer support. The Technician will also be required to operate/manage lab equipment/material safely with good 5S.

Responsibilities:

1. Be able to deeply understand the safety requirement of the lab, strictly follow the company discipline for lab EHS safety requirement.
2. Take responsibility for EHS and 5S compliance within team, identify and improve workplace safety, review, develop and manage the lab SOP, SOC, KPC, PTA and other policy documentations and 5S improvement.
3. Be capable of independently operating all required equipment. Flexible to communicate with other departments to share equipment for use.
4. Support Scientists’ research work with excellent experimental experience, great record of lab work, problem solving and data analysis.
5. Closely communicate with scientists to better understand experiment / safety requirement/ performance targets / operation steps, etc. for good experiment delivery, as well as closely monitoring and communicating experiment findings with optimization ideas provided to scientists to better innovation result.
6. Be responsible for lab equipment and facility maintenance, calibration and management, as well as support the lab new equipment and facility design, purchasing, construction, installation, commissioning and RTO.
7. Function support to team on daily operation including managing chemical sample labeling, research sample delivery, purchasing, chemical/equipment/spare part consumption management and purchasing with cost control to ensure the lab daily operation smoothly.

Qualifications: 

1. Be accountable and demonstrate good working ethics, integrity and ownership.
2. A minimum Associate Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer or other related science discipline with lab experience in chemical industry. Bachelor is preferred.
3. Drive for results, quick response on safety improvement and EHS integration implementation, good tracking record on safety.
4. Hands-on experience in plastic industry, understand the principles of common characterization equipment such as MDR, RPA, DSC, TGA, IR, and Instron etc.
5. Solid communication skills and interaction with scientists to ensure the on-time delivery of all the project tasks at high quality.
6. Be able to work in a team-oriented manner in order to accomplish performance objectives.
7. Good English for communication.
8. Good data analysis, results summary and problem-solving ability.
9. Strong learning ability, quick response to innovation requests from scientists.
10. Productivity, strong capability to handle multiple tasks to support experiments, lab safety and lab operations as well.
