WPP Media is seeking a Media Solutions General Manager to join our team. Based in Shanghai, this role reports directly to the Managing Director of WPP Media Solutions, China.
The GM will partner closely with WPP Media agencies to deliver diversified, high-quality media solutions for clients across digital and OOH platforms. Leading the Solutions Team, you will oversee the full lifecycle of solution development—from design, testing to launch—to ensure WPP Media clients access best-in-class tools and capabilities.
1. Architect revenue-driving, industry-relevant solutions that enhance WPP Media’s market recognition.
2. Gain holistic expertise in programmatic advertising, platform management, and data-driven marketing, with cross-functional collaboration across departments, teams, and client portfolios.
3. Leverage international exposure by working with regional teams (Singapore) and global teams (New York, London, LATAM).
4. Lead initiatives to deploy WPP Media’s latest digital media technologies, delivering technology-enabled, leading-edge media solutions.
1. Act as an Ad Tech evangelist & Media Expert for internal stakeholders and clients: Translate technical capabilities into business value; use data/analytics to refine media planning strategies (e.g., online/offline budget allocation, performance/search/social platform selection, cross-territory campaign synergy); and provide authoritative insights on integrating emerging trends (e.g., social-commerce media activation, privacy-first data-driven planning).
2. Manage ad tech partnerships & governance: Oversee WPP Media’s ad tech partner ecosystem, establish frameworks for evaluating partner capabilities, conducting regular reviews, and testing new functionalities.
3. Drive business growth via innovation: Identify market opportunities and pain points, then architect scalable, profitable new solutions (via new partnerships or in-house development) to fuel business expansion.
4. Lead roadmap & product strategy: Develop innovative roadmap initiatives to boost revenue or solve market challenges; gather/analyze stakeholder needs, prioritize requirements, manage budgets, and align cross-functional plans.
5. Team leadership & enablement: Build, lead, and motivate a high-performing team focused on solution-oriented thinking; provide consultative Ad Tech guidance to client servicing teams (including pre-sales support, needs assessments, and presentation delivery).
6. Foster cross-team & global collaboration: Establish strong relationships with internal teams to develop collaboration-dependent solutions; create frameworks for aligned communication with regional product teams; partner with global/regional teams to build impactful cross-channel planning, activation tools, and platforms.
7. Localization & go-to-market leadership: Lead the localization of global media solutions for the China market; serve as the China market’s go-to expert for agencies, supporting go-to-market planning, internal training, and the development of pitch materials/product collaterals.
8. Commercial & operational execution: Negotiate commercial terms with partners and manage end-to-end onboarding (from contract to integration); develop and deliver proof-of-concepts spanning campaign planning, activation, measurement, and reporting; capture and scale success stories for all launched solutions.

Business-technical-media translator: Excels at combining technical expertise with Media Expertise (online/offline territories, performance/search/social, data-tech driven planning) to solve complex business challenges; understands the technical, commercial, and media-specific implications of Ad Tech, with strong multi-project management abilities.
2. MarTech/Ad Tech authority: Demonstrates deep expertise in MarTech, Ad Tech, DMP providers, and web analytics.

1. 15+ years of relevant experience: Deep expertise across media, performance marketing, social media, data, and Ad Tech—with a track record of consultative client/partner engagement.
2. Senior leadership experience: Proven success in managing, mentoring, and leading teams; demonstrates strong supervisory and team-development capabilities.
3. Executive communication skills: Articulate, confident in engaging diverse audiences (including C-level clients); translates technical concepts into accessible business language and responds to unexpected queries in real time.
4. Narrative & presentation skills: Creates clear, compelling solution narratives (via PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.) and delivers them persuasively.
5. Agency expertise: Experience working in an agency environment; deep understanding of agency media campaign planning and execution processes.
6. Relationship management: Track record of managing high-stakes relationships with agency teams, tech partners, and global stakeholders.
7. Project management: Excellent ability to independently lead multiple complex projects from initiation to delivery.
8. English proficiency: Fluent in written and oral English; demonstrates active listening skills to align with global/regional teams.
