Position Summary
NYU Shanghai is a double identity university, thus, it has requirements for Chinese students to complete their Chinese diploma, such as Civic Education, Military training, personal dossier, etc. This position will provide comprehensive support and services regarding the Civic Education, Military Training, Personal Dossier, and other Chinese students-related affairs that don't fall under a specific student affairs function unit. This position will also manage the Civic education for Chinese students and the Introduction series of China to international students. This position will report to the Manager of the Center for Civic Engagement.
The main responsibilities include:
Chinese Military Training Coordination (30%)
- Assist with the Manager, Center for Civic Engagement, on Military Training overall coordination, including working with Oriental Land and other NYU Shanghai departments on the Military training contract, purchasing military training materials, etc.;
- Working as the primary contact to Oriental Land over the Military training period, serving as the staff chaperone;
- Assist with the Manager, Center for Civic Engagement, on the on-campus pre-military training;
- Select, train, and supervise the student leaders for Military training;
- Assist with the Manager, Center for Civic Engagement, on the staff chaperone selection, training;
- Coordinate with other NYU Shanghai departments on the military training operation, such as collaborating with the Public Safety Department on the shuttle bus arrangement, working with the Res Life Office on the students’ moving out, etc.;
- Deal with other Military training-related affairs.
Civic Education Course Coordination (40%)
- Assist with the Manager, Center for Civic Engagement on Civic Education overall coordination, including working with ECNU and other NYU Shanghai departments on the course planning, execution, and other arrangements;
- Assist with the Manager, Center for Civic Engagement on the course teaching assistants selection, training, and supervision;
- Serve as the primary contact for Civic Education with students;
- Work closely with other NYU Shanghai departments on the Civic Education Administration, including managing the students’ attendance, students’ assignments collection, students’ scores, purchasing, venue booking, access control, and other administrative works.
Student Personal Dossier Management (20%)
- Assist with the Manager, Center for Civic Engagement, on Chinese students’ dossier management;
- Receive, maintain, and transfer student personal dossiers as required.
Administration (10%)
- Manage the CET 4/6 test by working with ECNU partners;
- Deal with student ID booklet issuing, replacement etc.;
- Students CPC membership management;
- Other administration as assigned by the Manager, Center for Civic Engagement.
