Role Description:

The position is expected to teach the course “Piano for Non-Major” to Tianjin Juilliard Graduate Studies instrumental students who are not piano majors. This course aims to equip students with essential piano skills while deepening their understanding of musical texture, harmony, and tonality through hands-on keyboard experience. The class is conducted in a group setting of 4–7 students in a fully equipped keyboard lab.

The ideal candidate should be experienced in group class teaching and delivering course contents focused on building a strong foundation in:

• Basic piano techniques, such as scales and arpeggios
• Harmonization and chord progressions
• Repertoire learning and performance
• Contrapuntal and multi-voice textures
• Musical collaboration and ensemble sensitivity

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver weekly lessons tailored to professionally trained, non-piano major students
• Provide clear demonstrations and facilitate both individual and group practice
• Introduce fundamental techniques and musical concepts through piano playing
• Guide students in developing listening skills and an understanding of musical structure
• Assess student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback and evaluations
• Maintain an organized, engaging, and supportive classroom environment

• 帮助学生提升聆听能力与对音乐结构的理解
• 评估学生学习进展，提供及时且具有建设性的反馈与评语
• 营造有序、富有吸引力且具支持性的课堂氛围

Qualifications:

·      Fluency in English (As the graduate program at TJS is accredited by Middle States Commission on Higher Education, all instruction is conducted in English)

• Strong piano proficiency and solid understanding of keyboard pedagogy.
• Experience teaching piano in group settings, particularly to non-major or instrumental music students.
• Ability to design engaging and structured lessons that support both technical and musical development.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to student-centered teaching.
• Ability to assess individual progress and provide personalized feedback in a group environment.

·      Minimum 3 years of collegiate teaching experience required

• 能够设计结构清晰且富有吸引力，兼顾技术与音乐素养提升的课程
• 具备良好的沟通与人际交往能力，能够践行以学生为本的教学理念
• 能够在小组教学环境中评估学生的个人学习进展，并提供针对性的反馈
• 具有三年以上高等教育阶段的教学经验
