POSITION SUMMARY
The Design-FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) facilitator is a technical role enhancing engineering FMEA teams’ ability to prioritize customer, supplier, and internal-BorgWarner engineering-related work. Design FMEA facilitation will occur throughout of the BorgWarner Product Development Process. A single design-FMEA facilitator will lead multiple program Design FMEAs within a region. The facilitator will be hosting multiple meetings each day to ensure steady and useful communication across system and subsystem teams (eMotor, Power Electronics, Gearbox, etc.). The facilitator will be expected to lead and actively participate in meetings.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Organize, prepare for, and lead multiple engineering teams per program to establish and develop system and subsystem Design-FMEAs
o (x1) System + (x3) Sub-system for larger complex programs
o (x1) System/Subsystem for simpler programs
• PLATO e1ns FMEA software administrator role and proficient user of PLATO e1ns to guide teams utilizing the software
• Educate engineers in the proper deployment of the AIAG-VDA FMEA method, AIAG 4th, or VDA FMEA methods
• Cascade FMEA information from Requirements Design FMEA/Prints PFD/Process FMEA Control Plan Work Instructions
• Interface with Customer technical leads to identify important interfaces, FMEA requirements, and FMEA progress
• Interface with Supplier technical leads to improve product weaknesses or FMEA requirements
• Adhere to BorgWarner’s Design FMEA procedure and update procedure as necessary
• Show engineering teams how to apply FMEA tools (Boundary diagrams (interface/functional), Parameter Diagrams, Structure diagrams, Function Trees/Nets, Failure Trees/Nets)
• Manage Design-FMEA KPIs
• Interface with the FSM (Function Safety Manager) and the FSE (Functional Safety Engineer) to insure that the FMEAs are linked with the FMEDA (Failure Mode Effects Diagnostics Analysis) and that the methods and principles of ISO 26262 are incorporated into the design-FMEA.
• Interface with Manufacturing by linking the DFMEA with the PFMEA
o Cascading design Failure Modes to process FMEA Effects
o Cascade the Special Characteristics throughout all FMEA documents
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Minimum Qualifications)
Engineering degree or equivalent experience; 5years or more experience working with Design FMEAs
• User-level knowledge of AIAG-VDA FMEA handbook
o Able to show other engineering teams how (step-by-step) to complete each step and activities of the AIAG-VDA Design FMEA process
• Product Development experience managing Design FMEA’s (>= 5years)
• Actively used Design FMEA software in the past two years
Desired qualifications (can be trained internally)
• Familiarity with the ISO 26262 standard (minimum internal training: Overview, Parts 2-9)
Desired, but not mandatory:
• Product expertise in Power Electronics and/or eMotors
